Dear Sir or Madam,
One of the remits of the One Planet Working Group is to be a conduit to connect various other groups around Lyme Regis and to enable communication between them.
You are listed publicly as a contact for a Lyme based organisation, which is why I am emailing you. If you are not the correct contact, I would be very grateful if you could reply to this email and let me know who is. If you do not wish to receive these emails, you can, of course unsubscribe by clicking here.
The reason OPWG was formed is to help Lyme Regis Town Council, along with Lyme Regis residents and visitors, to reduce our collective carbon footprint to zero by 2030. I ask, therefore that you share the following information with your group as it contains details of a serious threat to our ability to meet any carbon reduction targets.
South Western Energy Limited (SWEL) have applied to Dorset Council for planning permission to drill for oil near Puddletown, with a 25 year plan to extract oil. There is an article here giving more details about the plans.
Lyme Regis Town Council, Dorset Council and the UK Government have all declared a climate and environmental emergency. The One Planet Working Group believe that new drilling for oil should be halted with immediate effect. Alternative sources of energy and feedstock for plastic production should be developed; fossil fuels should be kept in the ground if we are to stand any chance of avoiding climate chaos and global heating that threatens billions of lives around the world.
We ask you to view the full details of the planning application, and if you also believe that it should not go ahead, add your comments to the planning application.
